I find that the hardiness zones can get about 5 degrees colder than the USDA says. They say that we are zone 7b yet the last two years we were zone 7a. That is happening other places too so I suggest that you drop the zone 5 degrees undernieth what they say it is when you are considering what plants to get. like zone 6a can really be zone 5b.
