The loquat project
Posted: Fri Dec 04, 2020 6:08 am
I have started a loquat project, the project will be finding out which cultivars can fruit in zone 7a ‘Northeastern United States’, and which can fruit in zone 7a ‘South Eastern United States’, and I do mean in the ground unprotected. At least one cultivar has fruited every year in zone 7a ‘South Eastern United States’, yet the cultivar is unknown and still has to be tested in zone 7a ‘Northeastern United States’.
Many cultivars can survive zone 7a, yet the plant surviving does not mean that the flower buds, or that the flowers have much if any frost resistance. If the flower buds or the flowers are destroyed then that ruins the chance of a crop. At this time I am still growing the seedlings which will become the root stock, for the cultivars that I will test in our climate.
Here are seedlings that I started germinating the seeds Monday, May 6th, 2019:

March 2020 I gave each seedling that I started Monday, May 6th, 2019 it's own grow bag.
These two photos were taken Monday, March 30th, 2020, they are the same plant taken at different angles
These two photos were also taken Monday, March 30th, 2020, they are the same plant taken at different angles, yet not the plant above
These photos were also taken Monday, March 30th, 2020, 3 other seedlings.
