The loquat project

I have started a loquat project, the project will be finding out which cultivars can fruit in zone 7a ‘Northeastern United States’, and which can fruit in zone 7a ‘South Eastern United States’, and I do mean in the ground unprotected. At least one cultivar has fruited every year in zone 7a ‘South Eastern United States’, yet the cultivar is unknown and still has to be tested in zone 7a ‘Northeastern United States’.

Many cultivars can survive zone 7a, yet the plant surviving does not mean that the flower buds, or that the flowers have much if any frost resistance. If the flower buds or the flowers are destroyed then that ruins the chance of a crop. At this time I am still growing the seedlings which will become the root stock, for the cultivars that I will test in our climate.
