‘Ariana’ (it is also called 'DPUN 0125', 'DPUN 125')

This cultivar was test grown in Russia at the 'Kara-Kala Turkmenistan Experimental Station'. The original cutting was most likely from a farmers field 'since it was a cultivated variety at the time'.

That 'Experimental Station' donated cuttings of 'Ariana' which were imported to the USA 'by Thompson Southwestern Arboretum' on January 22nd 1999.

In case you are wondering, this pomegranate cultivar was named 'Ariana' before the public knew that the singer/actor 'Ariana Grande' existed, this cultivar might have been named before she was even born.

Ripens: late September to mid October, or October to November. Cold hardy to zone 8? Self-fruitful. Chilling Hours: 100 hours.

It's one of the very best pomegranate cultivars in the world, people who like 'Wonderful' would probably like this one more, maybe even much more. It has a great very strong flavor, it's acidic, some would say with an equal balance of sweetness, although it also has a high amount of sugar, the acidity tames the sweetness of the sugar, it may be a little more acidic than sweet, which means a high brix paired with a slightly higher acidity.

It's sweet-tart, medium to large sized fruit, has a bold red skin. It's dark ruby-red arils have tiny, very soft, tender seeds.
