  • Jurupa and Turkmenistan cuttings available

    Postby MichaelTucson » Wed Feb 04, 2015 7:21 am

I have some cuttings of Turkmenistan and Jurupa available, reasonable price. I think these two do better in a warmer climate than the USDA zone 5a where I live. I'm not sure how much warmer it matters. Here's a link to another forum where some folks discussed Jurupa:

For anyone interested in the cuttings, here's a link to the info on ordering. (Please note, email only... I just don't use those "private messages" much).

Yes. As you know, I've been watching for a "weather window" where the projected low temperatures aren't too extreme for a two day period. (With the cold weather for the past couple of weeks, there hasn't been a two-day projection without single digit (or below zero) lows in the past couple of weeks... last Wednesday and Thursday hit -11F here). BUT here's the good news: As of right now, the projected low for tomorrow night doesn't look bad (above 20F), and the next night, though low, isn't so extreme. So unless the projections change by tomorrow morning, I'm planning to mail them tomorrow in the morning. That way they'll have time to get out of this cold zone before Tuesday night... USPS Priority Mail seems to get them out of NY state in less than 24 hours. If I wait past tomorrow though, the projections are for another prolonged frigid polar air mass being here, covering the northeast for a week or more (starting later this week). So I'm planning to hit this window tomorrow morning. Thanks for your interest and your order!

    Regards,

Just for the record, in case anyone is watching here about shipping of these: I didn't ship them on Monday, because the weather service had changed their prediction about overnight low for Tuesday to 1 degree F. Of course, as it happened, it didn't actually get that cold. Still I couldn't very well observe the actual temperature and then go back in a time machine to a day and a half earlier and ship them. Just had to go with the predictions of the weather service and the various weather web sites. So, meanwhile the frigid cold continues here in the northeast, but those who ordered and paid for these Have No Fear - they are safely packaged, labeled with names and addresses, and stored between 35F and 40F, and will be shipped as soon as there is a weekday weather window of 2 days where the temp here isn't expected to go below 15F. (Weekday for the obvious reasons having to do with getting things moved through the mail). It's a bit unusual that it goes this long without such a 2-day window, but I'm still watching for it. (And the current predictions are for overnight lows to stay quite low for a week or more... Sunday is expected to be -8F, and last night here it was -4F).

Meanwhile, if anyone else wants some of these, please use email to contact me (not PM's). I still have a couple of sets left.

Not looking good for this week... pretty low temperatures still (way lower than usual even for February around here). Negative temps every night except Tuesday night. That wind chill warning is a bulletin from the National Weather Service that suggests we'll see wind chills of -20F to -30F.
